My 'Lanta My 'Story

The other day, My 'Lantan Reid asked an interesting question. StoryCorps is in Atlanta capturing life stories for posterity, but who is capturing the StoryCorps story? Who, Reid wonders, is gonna StoryCorps StoryCorps?

Inspired by his question, I took my voice recorder down to the StoryCorps van to record a StoryCorps story.

On this recording, the first in probably not ongoing feature we call My' Lanta My 'Story, we hear from Shawn and Paula Patch about their experience in the StoryCorps recording booth.

Hello from StoryCorps! Thanks so much for mentioning our MobileBooth stop in Atlanta on your blog - and for capturing thoughts about the project! For your readers who weren’t able to make it to the booth in 2006, StoryCorps has launched an initiative to make it easier to conduct interviews with loved ones. The National Day of Listening, an initiative to encourage Americans to record conversations with the people central to their lives, has been extended through the month of October. We've launched a separate website (http://www.nationaldayoflistening.org) with more tools and tips, a downloadable guide, and an instructional video for recording family and friends through the holiday season and beyond.

Also, if you or your readers are interested in hearing the stories that inspired this holiday, Dave Isay will be at Atlanta’s Margaret Mitchell House Literary Center at 7:00 PM tonight, December 9, answering questions and sharing stories from StoryCorps’ New York Times Bestseller “Listening Is An Act of Love.” More details about the book and reading are available at http://www.storycorps.net/book/book-tour. We hope to see you there!

Thanks again for helping us spread the word!
